Shredding Account Records

Shredding Account Records Consider all the account records in your home or business. As we are rounding the corner of the first decade in the 21st century, the term Identity Theft has unfortunately, become a household name. Thieves are finding new ways to use and abuse stolen account data, often creating nightmares for their victims, who must spend countless hours repairing the damage. While identity thieves have expanded their repertoire to include medical records, pay stubs, and even school records, financial data is still the most coveted and sought out data by identity thieves. Account data includes your credit card receipts or statements, bank statements, tax related documents, as well as retirement/IRA and brokerage records and house records (such as mortgage and property tax statements). Even in this technological age, it seems we are still swimming in paperwork, and eventually it must be tossed. Knowing what to toss and when can be tricky for most consumers. Generally, financial experts advise to keep credit utility and other household bills only until you receive the cancelled check. Credit card statements should be kept longer - about seven years (though receipts only need to be kept until your monthly statement comes and is reconciled). It is advised to keep paycheck stubs only until your end of year tax statements come, and bank records can also be tossed after one year. Other account paperwork, such as IRA, retirement statements, and house records (deeds, titles, etc) should be kept permanently. So what is a conscientious consumer to do with all of those old account statements containing such dangerously identifying data? Shredding your old account records is an excellent way to protect yourself from identity theft. One of the most popular ways for identity thieves to get your personal information is through "Dumpster Diving", in which crooks rummage through trash bins looking for papers with personal information on it. By shredding your old financial records with a good quality shredder, you are completely eliminating the threat of dumpster divers. Take advantage of free community shredding days or schedule our shredding truck to come to your home. It is secure, on-site, eliminates the worry and the hassle. Small businesses and corporations typically produce a large volume of paperwork with sensitive data, and professional shredding companies are becoming more and more popular. A professional shredding service allows the business owner to easily and safely get rid of their unneeded account paperwork, and the service is usually very cost efficient. There is no doubt that identity thieves are here to stay. The good news is you do have ways to protect yourself. Being diligent with where and how you get rid of your account records is one excellent way to keep your identity safe. Request a quote online and receive a written price quote within 24 hours. Shred Business Plans

With the proliferation of identity theft, there is an increasing need for document shredding. Document destruction protects essential financial and proprietary assets, including business plans created by you and your staff.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) estimates that identity theft crimes affect nearly 9 million Americans each year. Some thieves even rummage through garbage to collect sensitive information.

You will be helping to prevent identity theft by destroying these confidential business plans.

An individual business can purchase a small paper shredder, but a secure shred container makes sure the business plans will be destroyed.

Businesses find it inefficient for their personnel to shred large quantities of paper documentation in a paper shredder.

Who Said It???

"We do the price shopping, so you don't have to?"

We all want to feel like we didn't get "ripped off". Here are a few questions to ask when looking for a shredding company.

1. Are they on-site or off-site with their shredding? Will you want someone else taking your boxes of paper back to their wearhouse to shred, or do you personally want to watch the shredders do the shredding.

2. Will you be given a Certificate of Destruction? For HIPPA guidelines, it is necessary to have proof that the personal records were destroyed. Will you have to pay any more for the certificate of destruction.

3. Will the company take away the empty boxes after everything is shredded? Typically, shredding companies do not have a standard box removal. Some might offer box removal for an additional fee.

4. Is there a "truck fee"? Some shredding companies have a truck service fee for either on-site or off-site?

5. What is the per box cost to shred. Most shredding companies utilize a sliding cost scale for the cost/box. Typically, the more boxes you have, the cheaper it becomes.

6. Is there a minimum charge to shred? For some on-site companies, they will charge a minimum fee to shredd up to a certain amount of boxes.

Hope these questions help when choosing a shredding company to use?

Firm Slapped for Lack of Destruction Policies

The SEC issued a cease-and-desist order against J.P. Turner & Company over an alleged failure to adopt and implement information protection policies and procedures to safeguard customer records.

The SEC alleged that because there were no policies and procedures, the firm never gave its branch managers or registered representative’s guidance on how to protect and dispose of customer records.

A related filing indicated that the SEC's enforcement division is seeking remedial action against J.P. Turner.
